Using the Library: Circulation Policies

Borrow Materials from Jennings Library

Caldwell University students, faculty, staff, and alumni can borrow books, games, and devices from Jennings Library. Use your Caldwell ID card as your library card.

Failure to abide by Library and University policies may result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Fines

As of January 2023, we do not charge fines for overdue items. If an item is damaged or if you do not return an item at all, you will be billed for replacement costs. See below for details.

Damaged & Lost Items

  • Damaged materials are subject to a $20.00 non-refundable processing fee plus damage assessment, depending upon extent of damage.
  • The base charge for a lost book is $50 plus a $20 processing fee.

Reciprocal Borrowing

Want to learn more about borrowing materials directly from other libraries?

Are you a community member? A faculty member or student at another school?

Look at this page for information on ReBL and VALE reciprocal borrowing:

Recalls & Holds

You can place a hold on items that are available on the shelves and on items that are checked out to another person. Place a hold in the online catalog when signed into My Account, at the information desk in person, or by phone.

You will be notified by the Circulation Department when the item is available.

The item will be held for pick-up at the Information Desk for 7 days.

Books needed for course reserves may be recalled at any time. Faculty may recall books for class use. All other books may be recalled after they have been checked out for two weeks.

Recalled books must be returned within five days of receiving a notice from the circulation department.

Confidentiality

Under New Jersey state law, library patron circulation and registration records are confidential.
