Company Research Resources

How to cite company research resources in MLA format

Citing company research resources can sometimes be confusing. You may notice that some resources have no author, or have similar or identical titles. You can follow this suggested format when citing company research resources:

IN TEXT CITATION:

Use the article title, or the company ticker symbol, whichever makes more sense depending on the source. Put the article title in quotation marks, followed by a comma. If you have multiple sources with the same or very similar titles, include the name of the publication / source where you got the article to differentiate them.

  • In-text citation with title and publisher: ("Starbucks Corporation," CNN Business) OR ("SBUX," CNN Business)
  • In-text citation with title only: ("Starbucks Corporation")

WORKS CITED ENTRY:

Make sure that your in-text citation matches your works cited entry! For example, if your in-text citation is ("Starbucks Corporation," CNN Business), then "Starbucks Corporation" should be the first thing that appears in your works cited entry.

"Starbucks Corporation." CNN Businesshttps://www.cnn.com/markets/stocks/SBUX. Accessed September 10, 2024.

OR

"SBUX." CNN Businesshttps://www.cnn.com/markets/stocks/SBUX. Accessed September 10, 2024.

This suggested format is a simplified version of what MLA recommends for citing two or more sources with identical titles (see 6.15 when author and title are not enough in the MLA handbook).
