Library Resources for Graduate and Doctoral Students: Qualtrics

Qualtrics

If you are a graduate student and you are planning to conduct a survey for your thesis or dissertation, you may be interested in using Qualtrics, Caldwell University’s comprehensive online survey tool, to design and distribute your survey. Contact Heather Cook in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment at hcook@caldwell.edu to set up an account for you.

What is Qualtrics?

Qualtrics is a highly secure platform and is HIPAA compliant. Qualtrics can also be utilized as a form to collect information or as a scored quiz. Qualtrics provides detailed reports on your results. You can also download the responses and do your own calculations and charts if you prefer. Respondents can take a Qualtrics survey on a mobile phone or tablet. You can schedule email reminders in the system that are sent out based on the preferences you set. PDFs, short video clips and external links can be embedded within a survey question. You can also ensure that your survey is accessible for respondents with disabilities and follows the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) through Qualtrics ExpertReview.

Policy Guidelines for Using Qualtrics at Caldwell University

1. You must have a faculty or advisor sponsor who is responsible for supervising your research and use of Qualtrics.

2. If you wish to survey currently within the Caldwell community (students, alumni, faculty, etc.), you will need permission from Caldwell’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). Contact Caldwell University’s IRB office at irb@caldwell.edu.

3. You may also need to consult with Caldwell University’s IRB if you have a sensitive research topic or survey questions.

4. You are prohibited from using your Qualtrics account for personal use or for the benefit of another company/person. Violation of this will result in suspension or loss of Qualtrics use.

5. You are prohibited from sharing your Qualtrics account and login information with other individuals, unless you have faculty permission to do so. Violation of this will result in suspension or loss of Qualtrics use.

6. You are responsible for saving your data and survey instruments on your own media, such as an external hard drive, before the expiration of your account. The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment is not responsible for saving or retrieving data.

7. Your Qualtrics account will expire one year after your graduation date. If you need to use your account past this date, you must contact Heather Cook at hcook@caldwell.edu with an explanation on why you need to continue using Qualtrics and for how long.
