This page contains resources to learn about the 3D Printers we have in Jennings Library and how to prepare a design for 3D printing.
Makerbot Replicator 5th generation:
This printer has a single extruder (one color can be printed at a time), a 100 micron layer resolution, and a build volume of 9.9" L x 7.8" W x 5.9" H. It uses PLA plastic filament.
Print a 3D object created by someone else in Thingiverse. Thingiverse allows users to upload .STL files and to share them.
Be aware of the copyright restrictions on each item. Download the .STL file or files for the object to be printed with the 3D printer.
Be aware that uploaded 3D designs are not monitored for quality. We cannot guarantee these items will print properly.
Go to Thingiverse and start searching.
Design a 3D object from scratch using CAD software that will export an .STL file. Make sure to export or save your file as .STL so it can be printed by the 3D printer.
We recommend Tinkercad. You can use Tinkercad from any web browser- no downloading software! Tinkercad comes with online tutorials to help you learn the system.
One color can be printed per object. The colors that are available are: red, blue, black, white, orange, purple, yellow, grey, green, and translucent.
