Emerging Technologies: 3D Printing & VR

Welcome!

Welcome to Jennings Library's guide on trying 3D printing and virtual reality in the library.

The emerging technologies collection at Jennings Library started with the Creation Station, which was a grant funded initiative focusing on 3D technology. We now offer one 3D printer and a VR Lounge, which includes two Oculus Quest headsets.

How do I 3D print??

The basics:

  • To print a 3D object you need to send us the .STL file via email: 3dprinting@caldwell.edu
  • We may need to discuss the scope and timing of the project with you.
  • Printing costs $0.25 per gram of material
  • An estimate will be provided before we print your item.
  • For more info: See the Policies tab on this guide.

How do I reserve a VR headset??

The basics: Jennings Library has two Meta Quest 2 VR headsets and a dedicated space to use them, the VR Lounge.

  • The VR Lounge can be reserved for a maximum of 2 hours.
  • Check in for your session at the library's information desk. You will check the headsets out from the information desk.
  • The VR headsets and equipment may only be used in the VR Lounge and cannot be taken out of the Library.

Funding Information

Funding for the Makerspace Initiative (which included 3D printing) was initially provided by the New Jersey State Library and by LibraryLinkNJ, The New Jersey Library Cooperative, whose services are funded by the New Jersey State Library, which is responsible for the coordination, promotion, and funding of the New Jersey Library Network. Funding was also made available through a College Access Challenge Grant – Aim High Academy 2014 Contract.
