Do you need to look for a specific type of research article, like just for empirical articles or just for review articles? Here are some ways that you can specific your search according to methodology.
In some databases, there is a filter for methodology. The methodology filter will allow you to show only articles with a certain methodology tag, like "empirical study" or "systematic review". This will also offer other manners of categorization, like differentiating between qualitative and quantitative studies.
If there is not a methodology filter, you can use your search terms to specify what kind of article you want. This particularly applies to review articles, which often have words related to being a review in the title of the article. You can include or exclude terms related to reviews to get only review articles or to filter out (most) review articles. Here is an example:
Conversely, you could exclude review-related terms in the article titles by using NOT, as shown below. This will probably not excluded every single review article, but it will sharply reduce their presence in your search results.
