Citing Images

Any time you reuse an image you should give credit with a citation. The following are examples of citing an image in MLA style. 

  • Citing a photograph found on a website:

            Last, First M. Photograph Title. Year Created. Museum/Institution, Location. Website Title. Web. Date Month Year Accessed.

            Example: 

            Klee, Paul. Twittering Machine. 1922. Museum of Modern Art, New York. The Artchive. Web. 22 Feb. 2016.

  • Citing a photograph from a database:

            Last, First M. Photograph Title. Year Created. Museum/Institution, Location. Database Title. Web. Date Month Year Accessed.

            Example:

            Hine, Lewis. W. Italian Family on Ferry Boat, Leaving Ellis Island. 1905. George Eastman House, Rochester. Artstor. Web. 1 March 2015.
