Art history research is not always straightforward and can be frustrating at times. Unless you're researching a very popular piece of art, you may have a hard time finding scholarly articles about the piece you've chosen. But don't worry! Here are a few tips that might help:
Begin your research narrowly. Search the databases and WorldCat for your specific piece of art.
ex. "Paul Signac" AND "Port of Rotterdam"
If you can't find much information, search for information about the artist(s).
ex. "Paul Signac"
If you are still having trouble finding information, search for information about the artist's style and/or the time period during which your piece was created.
ex. Pointillism; Neo-Impressionism
If you are having trouble, ask a librarian for help. You may also want to contact your professor to ask for recommendations.
